CCA Board of Directors Election 2024

Please do your civic duty and vote in our CCA Board of Directors election. The Board of Directors plays a vital role in our community, helping steer decision making and overseeing the budget. Although there is only one candidate for each position, please cast your vote to show our Board members your support and appreciation for the many hours they volunteer to represent you and the community.

 

Here is the list of candidates. We have a new name on the ballot this year: James Kitchin, who is running for Treasurer. Candidate profiles will run in the May edition of The Advocate (which is mailed to you) and online in the E-Advocate.

Voting Procedures

If you are at least 18 years old and are a resident of the Crofton Special Community Benefits District, you are a member of the CCA and may vote in the election. The election will be by secret ballot with no proxies permitted. The Elections Committee will confirm voter eligibility before issuing a ballot, so please make sure you have an official photo I.D. (such as a driver’s license) to present when voting.

 

You may vote for the four Board officers and for your District Director. Not sure what district you live in? Check out this map and this district street list.

 

The ballots will be counted by Elections Committee members immediately after the polls close, and the results (including absentee ballots) will be announced upon the completion of the count.

In-Person Voting

You may cast an in-person ballot at the CCA General Membership Meeting on May 13th. The meeting will take place at Crofton Elementary School, 1405 Duke of Kent Drive, and it begins at 7:30 PM. The polls open at 5:00 PM and close at 9:00 PM. Please bring a photo I.D. so the Elections Committee can confirm your voter eligibility.

Absentee Voting

If you are unable to vote in person at the General Membership Meeting on May 13th, please consider voting by absentee ballot at Town Hall the week of May 6th-10th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with extended hours on Wednesday, May 8th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. To vote absentee, you must appear in person at Town Hall, 1576 Crofton Parkway, and present a photo I.D. to confirm your voter eligibility.

FAQ

What does the Board do?

The CCA Board:

  • Administers the CCA in accordance with its bylaws

  • Oversees and approves the CSCBD and CCA budgets and Town Hall operations

  • Determines and communicates positions on local education, development, and zoning issues, etc.

  • Helps plan and operate social events supported by the CCA 

  • Ensures compliance with neighborhood covenants 

  • Liaises with external organizations and governments, including the Greater Crofton Council, Anne Arundel County Government, and State of Maryland

  • Chairs the seven Standing Committees -- Planning and Zoning, Public Safety, Finance, Recreation and Youth, Covenant Enforcement, Operations and Maintenance, and Education and Civic Affairs.

 

How long are the terms?

Terms are two years which run from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2026.

 

How often does the Board meet?

The Board generally meets once a month but may meet weekly during budget review in the fall each year.  Board meetings are open to the public. There are also three General Membership meetings each year in January, May, and September, which Board members are expected to attend and run as needed.
